Are movies becoming diluted? Discuss the decline in cinema

After the success of Avatar, the studios are throwing all of their eggs into the 3D basket. Even films that weren’t originally conceptualized in 3D are getting the post-treatment – After all, if the studios feel they can squeeze an extra $4 per ticket, it’s a no-brainer. But will the trend last?

Clash of the Titans is a recent example of a film that got the “treatment” after the fact, and though I enjoyed the movie, by all accounts, the 3D element ruined the picture. I opted to view the film in 2D – this whole 3D thing gives me a headache. Michael Bay is rumored to be fighting the studios, who want to 3D-is Transformers 3 after the fact. According to Bay, the process just isn’t up to snuff, and costs way too much – about $30 Million for a typical blockbuster.

What happened to music is now happening to movies – DVD sales are declining, more and more online content is available, and it is becoming harder for content producers to monetize their creations. Unlike the music industry, where a band can tour to generate revenue or license songs for commercial content, movies can’t do that. And the industry has only helped devalue itself by offering $5 DVDs. Sure, that’s great for the consumer in the short run… but what happens long term?

Take the typical studio film… $100 Million to produce, and easily $100 Million to market. DVDs can be replicated for $1, sold to the wholesaler for $2, then into the retailer for $2.50, and the consumer for $5. That’s a $1 profit per DVD. Say the film is a success, taking in $200 Million at the Box Office… well, half is going to the theater chain, the other to the studio. That still leaves a $100 Million shortfall to be made up on DVD, Blu-Ray and PPV/VOD. That’s a lot of DVDs to sell in a declining market.

So what does all this mean? Fewer movies, for sure, though the ones that do get made will likely have to be better quality.

Cinema houses and other exhibition centers were finally shut down in the early 80’s. Home video thrived in the 90’s and early millennium. Foreign movies were still patronized by those who were tired of the lackluster performances seen in home videos.

The cinematic culture was resurrected through the establishment of the Silver bird galleria (which houses the cinema) by the chairman of the Silver bird group (Ben Murray Bruce). At first, people thought it was a flash in the pan judging from the fall of yesteryears, but over time the Galleria has played host to thousands of movie enthusiasts through its release of latest movies(dominantly Hollywood). The Galleria capitalizes on its synergy (silver bird TV and rhythm 93.7fm radio station) and of course movie listings on Friday Vanguard and The Sunday edition of the Nation newspapers. Nollywood movies have also been accorded the same opportunity to be viewed by all.

A smartphone with a premium quality camera in your hand and a beautiful atmosphere around can tempt anyone to take a selfie or even record an attractive event. Now that you know how someone’s privacy can be affected because of your selfie, it is time to stick to some guidelines to prevent some unforeseen circumstances. Every time you take a selfie, please make sure that there is nobody in the background, or at least, no stranger’s face is visible. But if you are in a crowded place but still want to take a selfie, at least use a tool to blur the faces of others before uploading the image to your social media. If you are taking a selfie with someone you think is attractive or dressed funny, let them know and take their permission before capturing the shot. Check if they are okay if you upload it to your social media account.

Social media sites have clearly lost control of their users and the kind of content they post. This film was directed by Oscar winning director and young global leader Sharmeen obaid-Chinoy, which tells the story of San Quaiser.

A young woman named Saba Quaiser who survives an attempted murder by the hand of her father, her only fault was falling in love with a person her family did not approve of.

After marrying this person, her father was overcome with guilt. At first he didn’t realize his mistake, he believed that it is his duty as a father to protect his family from dishonour.

This movie was so powerful that it impacted Pakistani society and their tradition of honour killing; as the Pakistan prime minister said He will change the law of honour killing after watching this film.

2- Cathy come home.

Cathy come home was released in 1996 and it influentially reflected on the worldwide issue of homelessness. After watching the movie, it raised significant awareness. UK’s first leading charity on homelessness, “shelter” was founded as a result of this movie. Even today, people cite this movie as a reminder for this serious issue facing all of us.

3- Philadelphia.

4- Super size me.

Before directing this movie, the director Morgan Spurlock ate only fast food for a month. At the end of this movie after 30 days he gained 25 pounds, he found he had a massive increase an increase in cholesterol level, and the doctor said that he had a liver of an alcoholic.

Super size me is a documentary movie which created a stir about the fast food industry. It exposed how bad fast food is for health to how it is marketed to children.

After the release of this movie McDonald’s transformed its super size menu options to healthier food items in its menu, though McDonalds denies that it was in response to the film.

5- The Thin Blue Line.

Released in 1988, this film tells the story of RANDELL DELL ADAM, a man who was wrongly sentenced to death for the murder of a Dallas police officer. After extensive research and observing society, the director Errol Morris raised awareness for people who were wrongfully convicted of crimes they did not commit.

There was always a desire to capture light, to draw nature, so that the term photography comes from the Greek word “photos” – light and “graphein” – drawing.
